When starting, I never believed that I could complete the librarianship SLIM program at Emporia State University. English is not my native language, in fact it is my third language, and as a graphic design student at Portland State University, I hardly wrote anything more than three pages. Amazingly, with supports from friends, colleagues, family, mentors, and advisors, I am very close to the finish line. My writing improved greatly and I learned many valuable skills during these two years of intensive training. In addition, I am more aware of my strengths and weaknesses. One of my strengths I discovered recently was the ability to respond and adapt quickly to any new environment. This new strength also helped shape my philosophy in providing library services. This philosophy embraces being responsive and adaptable.
Currently, I am the temporary Bilingual Children Librarian at the Multnomah County Library. My responsibilities involve providing storytimes for bilingual and monolingual toddlers and pre-schoolers and doing school outreaches. I help organize the multicultural events and programs at the library. I also teach Chinese computer class. Due to the variety of responsibilities, I haven't experienced any dull moment at work. I really love my job.
